Welcome To Tennis Grand Prix
Born from of an idea in 2020 over lockdown for engaging an ever growing number of beginner and improver players having a need to compete in likened ability matches, in a safe and highly social environment. The Tennis Grand Prix system was created. Within it's inaugural year it claimed the LTA county, regional and then LTA national 'Competition of The Year' award.
Subsequently the Grand Prix series has grown year on year seeing more than 420 competitors across 6 age groups gain enjoyment from regular competition.
The GP series is primarily designed for beginner and improving junior players, who historically have only competed within internal home venue competitions. The focus of the GP series is on broadening the competitive environment of players in a very friendly and social regular way.
Although the GP Series is focusing on getting new players into their competitive journey's, we also recognise that players who have more experience or a greater skillset - e.g. county juniors still enjoy the competition and events. These players are restricted to 3 events of their own age category, then must compete in their proceeding category. With GP plus events coming on stream we will be able to direct these players to these events, enabling more entry spots for D1 & D2 club players
Qualification events run from February - July, culminating in a finals day held in August for all categories of player.
Players are designated into two divisions D1 & D2. This corresponds to their home coach's decision on what ability level, knowledge and experience of playing. On the day of the event players will be split into their respective division to play against likened level players so that they get a competitive set of matches.
Each event for Orange (circa 9U) up to 16U will play a minimum of 3 singles and 1 doubles. Depending on their results they will earn points that contribute towards their qualification position for finals day where the top 16 players are invited.
There is no pressure to play all events, yet it gives you the best opportunity to qualify by keeping match sharp with regular competition.
Finals day is a single day event where the top 16 players from across all age categories compete for the end of series trophy.
2023's event saw over 270 people attend including 80 competitors in a great atmosphere.
There were off court games when not playing and a live band entertained whilst some fabulous tennis was watched by all who attended.
The finals are run using an initial Round Robin system with the top 4 players moving into an elimination draw, the remaining competitors then compete in a compass draw format.

Coming In 2024!
With the success of the past 2 seasons of the Tennis Grand Prix, and player development having increased greatly and more players spreading their horizon to more formal LTA competitions we have designed a set of transition events that will be aimed at Upper D1 players and county and development squad players. These events will be run as a longer match format (e.g. Full Fast4 matches) and will also count towards LTA ranking points.
